Burstable, variable rate bandwidth services provide your co-hosted or EPI managed
service solution with a bandwidth based Internet connection. Variable
rate connections allow you consume as much Internet network traffic as
your service requires, subject to availability.
Service Fees
Burstable
bandwidth solutions provide you with the ability to pay only for the
Internet network bandwidth your service requires.

Questions and Answers
What is Bandwidth?
Bandwidth is the amount of network traffic that can be
carried from one point to another during a one second period of time.
What is Burstable Bandwidth?
Burstable Bandwidth, also known a variable rate
bandwidth, is a flexible alternative to dedicated (or fixed speed)
bandwidth. It allows clients to obtain the benefits of high speed
connections without incurring the higher costs that may be involved with
the delivery of these higher network speeds.
What do the terms Kbps and Mbps
mean?
Kbps is short for Kilobits per second, or 1,000 bits per
second (bps). Mbps is short for Megabits per second, or 1,000,000 bps.
What is a Bandwidth Allowance?
Bandwidth Allowance is the minimum amount of Internet
network bandwidth that you have agreed to purchase (your minimum
commitment, or "MC"). The larger your minimum commitment the lower your
cost for bandwidth, as paid for on a cost per Kbps basis.
How does EPI Internet Direct
determine how much network bandwidth I have consumed?
EPI determines the amount of network traffic being used
by your service using special network monitoring services which capture
and record your network traffic approximately 2,880 time each day. These
values are used to calculate your monthly bandwidth consumption using a
95th Percentile billing
method.
What happens if I consume more
Internet network bandwidth then my subscription permits?
You will be invoiced for any additional consumption at a
fixed rate. The rate at which you pay for additional bandwidth varies
according to the size of your minimum commitment. Please contact your
EPI Internet Direct sales representative for details.
When does EPI Internet Direct
invoice for additional network bandwidth consumption?
Additional network bandwidth consumption, if any, is
typically invoiced within 15 days of the end of each calendar month.
Can I see reports of my
bandwidth consumption?
Yes. For additional information, please
How many network port
connections am I permitted with this service?
Standard pricing includes one Internet facing port
connection. Multiple port connections are supported for a small
additional service fee. If your service includes multiple Internet
facing port connections then the Internet network traffic of
all ports is combined in order to determine your Internet network
bandwidth consumption.
Which is better, purchasing
network bandwidth or simply paying for my network traffic by subscribing
to a service that includes a Gigabyte per Month network allowance?
Neither is better then the other. Some clients prefer
subscription plans that eliminate limits on the number of gigabytes
their service is permitted to transfer each month, particularly if they
expect to consume hundreds or perhaps thousands of gigabytes of network
traffic.
For clients who anticipate consistent, larger than
average network traffic volumes, bandwidth pricing can be less
expensive. If your network traffic requirements fluctuate wildly
throughout each month then purchasing traffic based on a gigabyte
allowance may save you money. Only you can determine which billing
method is best for your set of circumstances. If you require help
determining which billing method is best then please feel free to
contact your EPI Internet Direct sales representative for additional
information.

Not all EPI hosted services are eligible for bandwidth
pricing. While EPI makes every effort to ensure that sufficient network
capacity exists to service all EPI customers, the bandwidth values
specified do
not represent a bandwidth service level guarantee. Clients requiring
service level guarantees should contact EPI and request a quotation for a CBR
(Committed Bit Rate) service level agreement. For information please call EPI toll
