Unless otherwise stated, all EPI services are backed up
nightly. Backups are performed as follows:
For standard SQL Server database hosting
services:
- Full backups are performed nightly.
- Databases are managed using the "Simple" recovery model.
- Recovery, if required, returns each database to its state as of the
last backup cycle.
For extended SQL Server database hosting
services (Available on request. Additional service fees apply):
- Full database and log file backups are performed weekly.
- Log file backups are performed nightly.
- Depending on your database backup options, additional log file
backups may be performed daily.
- Databases are managed using the "Full" recovery model.
- Recovery, if required, returns each database to its state as of the
last database and/or log file backup cycle or, if possible, to the state
of its last checkpoint.
Note: The above SQL Server backup policies also apply to services which
use, directly or indirectly, Microsoft SQL Server services. This includes:
- All Microsoft application hosting services which rely on Microsoft
SQL Server for their operation (i.e. SharePoint, Project Server,
Commerce Server, Class Server, etc.)
- Any and all web site hosting services, terminal services or third
party hosting services which rely on Microsoft SQL Server for their
operation.
For Front-End Terminal Server (Execute Only)
deployments:
Front-End Terminal Server (Execute Only) servers do not store customer
data files on same computer that is executing your business applications.
Instead, client data files are stored on separate back-end file servers or
on separate back-end SQL Servers. These back-end servers are backed up
nightly. For these front-end servers full backups are performed each time
the front-end server is updated with new software or is patched with
operating system updates.
For Front-End Terminal Server (Data Resident)
deployments:
Front-End Terminal Server (Data Resident) servers store some or all
client data on locally attached disk drives or on network attached SAN
volumes. For this class of service full backups are performed weekly and
incremental backups are performed daily.
For Microsoft Small Business Server deployments:
Full backups are performed nightly. A total of one week of backups is
maintained which permits up to six days of data recovery. Options for longer
backup cycles, incremental backups and the maintenance of separate off-site
backups are available for an additional fee. Contact your EPI sales
representative for details.
For all Other Standard Services:
- Full backups are performed weekly.
- Incremental backups are performed nightly.
- Recovery, if required, returns your web site or other service to its
state as of the last backup cycle.
For Dedicated Servers and related Dedicated
Services:
Unless otherwise stated in your Sales Agreement, standard pricing for
nightly backup services provides for the backup of up to 20GB of
uncompressed dedicated
server data files. A surcharge of $65.00/month applies to each incremental
increase of 20GB or less of operating system and data file usage. For example, a
client using 35GB of server disk space storage would be invoiced their standard monthly fee,
which covers backup services for the first 20GB of usage, plus $65.00 for
the backup of the remaining 15GB of data file usage.
Extended Backup Services
EPI recommends that clients running mission critical applications talk to
their EPI sales representative about various high availability options that
are offered by EPI Internet Direct.
For those clients looking simply to shorten the recover window available
for their service, EPI offers an extended backup service which provides
additional backups of your web site, data files or SQL Server databases.
Pricing for this option starts at $50.00 per month, which adds one
additional mid-day backup of up to 5GB of web site, data file or SQL Server
database information (providing a total of two backups daily, one overnight
and other mid-day).
Additional intermediate backups of the same data set add $35.00 per month
per backup cycle for each 5GB block of consumed disk space. For example, to request backups at approximately 11:00AM,
2:00PM and 5:00PM brings the total number of daily backups to four (one
overnight and the others at the time shown) and would be priced at $120.00
per month ($50.00, which includes one mid-day backup, plus 2x $35.00 for the
two additional backup cycles).
A one-time setup fee of $195.00 is charged for setting up of this extended
backup service.
Recovery Charges:
Recovery charges DO NOT apply if recovery is performed due to a
failure of an EPI service.
If you request recovery, due to any reason not related to a failure of
EPI service, then you will be charged time and materials at the rate of
$140.00 per hour for standard recovery, and $240.00 per hour for emergency
recovery. A minimum one hour service charge applies.
- Standard Recovery fees apply if no interruption of EPI schedules or
other backup processes is required to perform your recovery.
- Emergency Recover fees apply a) if you require recovery operations
to be performed outside of EPI's normal business hours. or b) if your
recovery requires EPI to cancel and reschedule other backup operations,
or c) if your recovery requires EPI to perform synchronization of
multiple operational services (available only if your service includes
the special backup services necessary to ensure service
synchronization).
Exceptions:
- SharePoint Services
EPI retains full backups for SharePoint web site databases but does not
retain backups of individual SharePoint Web Sites. While it is
technically possible to recover individual SharePoint web sites the time
and expense involved is significant and is quoted on a case-by-case
basis and full recovery may not be possible under all circumstances.
- SAN Storage Solutions
SAN Storage provides a high availability, high capacity block based
storage solution with built-in redundancy. Redundancies include RAID
hardware, storage unit clustering and two or three way volume mirroring. EPI SAN
storage pricing includes nightly 'snapshots' of SAN volumes which are
retained on a five day cycle. Pricing does not include transfer of SAN
data files to tape or other off-site storage facilities. Clients may
extend this basic service to include additional snapshots, longer
retention periods, backup to tape and other options. Contact your EPI
sales representative for details.
- NAS Storage Solutions
NAS Storage provides high availability, high capacity file based storage
solution with built-in redundancy. Redundancies include RAID storage,
storage unit clustering, two way volume mirroring and optional Volume
Shadow Copy Services. EPI NAS storage pricing includes nightly
'snapshots' of NAS storage volumes which are retained on a seven day
cycle. Files are copied to tape weekly for off-site storage on a four
week cycle, with up to three weeks of usable backup files available.
Clients may extend this basic service to include longer backup cycle
extensions.
All prices are quoted in US dollars and are subject to
change without notice. EPI reserves the right to modify backup policies
without notice.
